MEDWAY connects Sines to Madrid

The first MEDWAY Container train with connection between the Port of Sines and Madrid was held yesterday.

Composed of 29 wagons, that train can carry 61 full tires and has a length of 527 meters.

It was an exceptional trip organized in the last five days, in order to be able to place in Madrid containers of a ship that had omitted the port of Valencia in its routes.

According to the President of the Board of Directors of MEDWAY, Carlos Vasconcelos, "this train is part of a MEDWAY strategy of action that aims to extend the activity to Spain, while joining forces with the national ports, for a growing expansion Of the hinterland in the Iberian area, using multimodal rail-based solutions. MEDWAY is the new brand name that, what used to be CP-Carga, is going to operate as, starting today

MEDWAY is the new brand name that, what used to be CP-Carga, is going to operate as, starting today. In order to become the largest logistics operator in the Iberian Peninsula MEDWAY’s strategy involves expanding its upstream and downstream activities to offer integrated logistics and transport solutions and widening its activity into Spain.

Back in May, the company rebranded itself as MEDLOG, a name that the MSC Group uses in other geographies for its logistics businesses and that it owns as a European brand name. However, as there was already another company operating with the same name in Portugal, the Board decided to adopt a new name in Portugal to make its presence clear and unequivocal and that makes it stand out in the sector.

MEDLOG is a new brand which provides inland logistics services for customers across multiple industries throughout Portugal. The brand was presented today at Museu da Eletricidade and replaces the former CP Carga – Logística e Transportes Ferroviários de Mercadorias SA, following a privatisation process concluded last January.

According to Carlos Vasconcelos, MEDLOG’s Portugal Chairman of the Board, “creating this new brand marks the beginning of a new phase in the company, with new values and a new identity, that reflects both the history of CP Carga and it´s bright future it has as a leading Iberian operator. We want to provide high-quality services while keeping strong relationships with our clients, based on trust and partnerships. Our business strategy acknowledges the need to extend our activity beyond rail transport, as a way to offer fully integrated logistics solutions.”
